Cheviot Sheepskin Rug (Tùs - Vatten Farm)

£305.00

This gorgeous and large sheepskin is from Cheviot sheep, bred in Vatten Farm on the Isle of Skye, just eight miles from our tannery in Waternish.

The Cheviot fleece is long and durable, dense and warm, and makes really beautiful sheepskin rugs.

These rugs will keep warm and comfy for years to come and prove easy to look after,  They are a creamy white colour (no sheep is truly white) and quite large, at least 100cm long and 70 wide.

HISTORY

The Cheviot is an old breed which traditionally lived in North East England and the Scottish Borders.  Known for its resistant nature and ability to graze on wild moorland year-round, it proved well suited to the Highlands when introduced in the 1790s.

WHERE THE SHEEPSKINS COMES FROM

These Cheviot sheepkin rugs come from Vatten Farm, a family croft with a passion for rearing animals in a sustainable way and producing excellent meat sold to the best Skye restaurants with little to no miles from farm to plates.  Find oure more: Vatten Farm (skyeskyns.co.uk)

To keep your sheepskin looking as good as the day you bought it, restore the texture of the wool from time to time using a metal brush or comb. On the back of each sheepskin, you will find a stamp detailing whether the fleece is washable or dry clean only. For a spot clean or refresh, use a damp cloth and our Woolly Fresh Spray. Use the latter sparingly.

Washable sheepskins

You can hand wash or machine wash your fleece on a wool cycle at 30 degrees Celsius with a wool-specific soap or our Woolly Wash. Dry in the shade and do not expose the leather to heat. When dry, shake vigorously and rejuvenate the pile using a brush.

Dry-clean sheepskins

Your rug should be brushed regularly to keep the fleece in good condition, this is especially important if you have a longer staple rug. If you do spill something on the rug it can be spot washed, taking care not to wet the leather, and then dried slowly. Talk to a reputable dry cleaner, who will have experience of leather and fleeces.
