IF YOU KEEP NATIVE, HERITAGE OR COLOURED BREEDS OF SHEEP WE WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO BE PART OF OUR TÚS SHEEPSKIN COLLECTION, FROM FARM TO FLOOR.
We are sourcing skins directly from abattoirs, farmers, crofters, small holdings or estates. Our aim is to create a fully traceable eco-tanned product, which completes the sheep farming cycle.
HOW IT WORKS
PRICES
Prices for raw skins vary depending on different breeds, skin condition, quality, rarity and size and we are happy to work with all numbers from a handful to a few hundred.
We offer from £10 to £35 per raw skin depending on the quality and ultimate retail price. We will give you an estimate based on photos of the sheep and confirm once the skins have been through the tanning process.
---------
LOGISTICS
We can arrange pickup and delivery from abattoirs and individual farms. We have both barrels and expandable boxes at our disposal which can be shipped to your site until slaughter and salting has been completed. We will arrange courier returns to our tannery under our tannery licence.
We do regular pickups from Munro's of Dingwall who we already work with as skin merchant. We are also happy to work with any abattoir in the UK to facilitate salting, storage and transport.
-----------
RAW SKIN QUALITY
We require raw sheepskins that meet the following criteria:
a. No rise in the wool
Skins must be taken before the rise occurs.
The rise is a natural softening and weakening of the wool fibres near the skin, typically in spring, as sheep prepare to shed their winter coats. It causes the fleece to loosen and can reduce wool quality and fleece adhesion—making the skins unsuitable for tanning.
b. At least 10 weeks of wool growth
Sheep must have been shorn at least 10 weeks prior to slaughter, to allow sufficient wool length and density for our tanning and finishing processes.
