Skyeskyns at Mint Croft, Waternish

There’s something rather lovely about seeing a Skyeskyns sheepskin in a home here on Skye.

Lat week, we packed up a few of our favourites and headed over to Mint Croft on Waternish for a day of photography. It’s a beautiful old croft, thoughtfully brought to life with natural materials, simple interiors and plenty of warmth.

We knew our sheepskins would feel right at home!

Made for slow, cosy living

At Mint Croft, our sheepskins found their way onto chairs, beside the fire and into those little corners where you naturally want to get cosy.

They brought a softness to the stone and timber, while our wool throws added warmth and texture. Sheepskin cushions made chairs and sofas that little bit harder to resist.

And then there was the knitwear, warm woolly layers for pulling on before heading out into the weather, or for wearing while you settle in for the evening.

It all came together in a way we really loved.

Nothing too polished or overdone. Just natural materials and comfortable spaces made for living in.

The beauty of natural wool

One of the things we love most about wool is its versatility.

It can be sturdy and practical, wonderfully soft and beautifully warm. It works just as well beside a winter fire as it does on a cool summer evening.

And no two pieces are quite the same.

There’s something comforting about choosing materials that feel connected to where they come from, and that will last long enough to become part of everyday life.

A little bit of Skye

Mint Croft felt like a very natural home for our collection.

The stone, timber and simple interiors sit beautifully alongside wool and sheepskin. And outside, Waternish provides the backdrop. Hills, sea, changing weather and that wonderful Skye light that never seems to stay the same for long.

Standing there, it was hard not to think about the journey behind the things we make.

Sheep grazing on the hills.

Wool coming into our hands.

The work of turning it into something warm and useful.

A jumper pulled on before a walk.

A blanket over the back of a chair.

A sheepskin beside the fire.

And, at the end of the day, a warm home to come back to.

That connection to place is something we never take for granted.

Behind the scenes

The shoot was a lovely chance to see our collection in a different way.

Rather than photographing each piece on its own, we wanted to show how they actually live together. How a sheepskin and wool throw can make a favourite chair even more inviting, how a couple of cushions can soften a fireside corner, and how a good woollen jumper simply becomes part of everyday life.

Mint Croft was the perfect place to do that.

We spent the day moving things around, finding little corners, making cups of tea and, of course, taking a lot of photographs!

We hope this gives you a little taste of the day, and perhaps a little inspiration for bringing more natural wool, warmth and a bit of Skye into your own home.

If you’ve spotted a sheepskin, throw, cushion or woollen layer you’d love to make your own, you can find the collection below. And if you’re yet to discover Mint Croft, be sure to take a look at the website, you’ll fall in love with this beautiful hideaway!

Until next time, from our wee corner of Skye,

The Skyeskyns Team.
