Description

Dark, dramatic and full of character.

Eco-tanned with tree bark in small batches in our Skye tannery, the Hebridean is a proper bit of Scottish crofting heritage.

Hebridean wool is naturally robust, with a deep, fluffy pile that feels substantial underfoot. It’s a striking piece by the fire, beside the bed or thrown over a chair as an instant talking point.

Each rug is one-of-a-kind, with natural variation in shape, wool length and markings. Colouring ranges from rich dark brown through to inky black, often with soft grey flecks running through the fleece, so no two ever look quite the same.

As with every sheepskin, sizes vary as nature intended, but you can expect roughly 90–100cm in length and 60–70cm at the widest point.

Tanned thoughtfully here on Skye

This rug is part of our Mimosa Collection: Scottish and rare British sheepskins, hand-tanned in limited edition runs using mimosa (tree bark) tanning. It creates beautifully soft, high quality leather, with a more environmentally mindful finish.

About the breed

Hebridean sheep are one of Scotland’s historic native breeds, shaped by centuries in a harsher climate. Once considered at risk, they’ve made a strong comeback in the Highlands and Islands, where they’re reared in tune with the local environment.

Care & Maintenance Advice

To keep your sheepskin looking as good as the day you bought it, restore the texture of the wool regularly by using a metal brush or comb. On the back of each sheepskin, you will find a stamp detailing whether the fleece is washable or dry clean only. For a spot clean or refresh, use a damp cloth and our Woolly Fresh Spray. Use the latter sparingly. You can hand wash or machine wash your fleece on a wool cycle at 30 degrees Celsius with a wool-specific soap or our Wool Wash. Dry in the shade and do not expose the leather to heat. When dry, shake vigorously and rejuvenate the pile using a brush.
