The Isle of Skye

A magical island

Our home, the Isle of Skye (Eilean a’ Cheò) is the largest island of the Inner Hebrides. Easily accessible by road via the famous Skye bridge although many visitors choose to take one of the various small or large ferries ‘over the sea to Skye’. This island boasts an abundance of visitor experiences, spectacular wildlife, world-class eateries, history, culture and areas of breath-taking natural beauty.

The weather on Skye can be ever-changing and it is this fast paced climate that defines the natural beauty and stunning light and often means that the views are constantly transforming as you stand and admire them. A photographer’s paradise! Peace and tranquillity are easily found on Skye whether watching one of the most impressive sunsets in the world, or looking over to the Outer Hebrides with a glass of Talisker Whisky in hand on a summer’s evening, or stargazing on a clear winter’s night beneath some of the world’s clearest skies. Take a moment to step off the beaten path and sample some of Skye’s lesser known delights.

Whether you’re walking, scrambling, climbing or traversing, the peaks of the Cuillins, our legendary mountain range or one of the other many island munros have days of excitement to offer. Outdoor adventure is in abundance with knowledgeable guides on hand for canyoning and coasteering with inland lochs for kayaking and a variety of sea jetties for unforgettable boating voyages. There are many accommodation providers from self-catering to luxury hotel experiences, all working hard to make your visit both safe and memorable.

Skye, our magical island doesn’t disappoint but be sure not to rush your visit, as there is so much more to see and do here than you might first realise. If you are planning a trip we have compiled a list of websites to help with your research and of course we’d recommend basing yourself in panoramic Waternish for your visit!
