Mimosa Highland Rare Breed Sheepskin Rug

Our Mimosa Collection Highland sheepskin rare breed rugs are all unique pieces.

Tanned from sheep bred in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, they bear colours and markings that are still rarely seen in this region.  With their large size and thick wool pile, stunning colourings and wool, they are beautiful statements in any home.

Colourings typically include: some grey within the brown (this can very subtle as this is often the result of cross-breeding), dark brown/nearly black icelandic type fleeces, light brown/blond tones or accents, or some Jacob (brown and white) fleeces. When ordering, if you do not request a specific colour, we will send one of our available rare breed sheepskins, regardless of colouring.  They are all beautiful, don't worry!

They have been handcrafted here at Skyeskyns using our tree-bark tanning method and lovingly prepared by our talented tanners. Each sheepskin has been branded on the leather side and bears a tag with its tanning date and batch number.

Dimensions: approx 100 to 110 cm long and 60 to 70 cm wide at their largest points.

Our Mimosa sheepskins are washable with care.

PLEASE NOTE WHEN ORDERING: please feel free to request pictures or tones in your fleece, using the Comments box on checkout, we will do our best to match your requirements.  Please bear in mind our Mimosa Collection is made up of limited batches and that each fleece is unique.

To keep your sheepskin looking as good as the day you bought it, restore the texture of the wool from time to time using a metal brush or comb. On the back of each sheepskin, you will find a stamp detailing whether the fleece is washable or dry clean only. For a spot clean or refresh, use a damp cloth and our Woolly Fresh Spray. Use the latter sparingly.

Washable sheepskins

You can hand wash or machine wash your fleece on a wool cycle at 30 degrees Celsius with a wool-specific soap or our Woolly Wash. Dry in the shade and do not expose the leather to heat. When dry, shake vigorously and rejuvenate the pile using a brush.

Dry-clean sheepskins

Your rug should be brushed regularly to keep the fleece in good condition, this is especially important if you have a longer staple rug. If you do spill something on the rug it can be spot washed, taking care not to wet the leather, and then dried slowly. Talk to a reputable dry cleaner, who will have experience of leather and fleeces.
