Texel Cross Sheepskin Rug (Tùs - Linicro Larder)

- +

The Texel Cross Sheepskin Rug is a beautiful deep pile off-white sheepskin with a thick dense wool. They are not the biggest sheepskin but they make up in density of wol what they lack in size. Some have pretty long wool but they all sport a thick fleece. They are also from right here on Skye!   These sheepskins will make a great throw for a chair or sofa, or in front of the fireplace.

Texel sheep originate from the island of Texel in the Netherlands.  A highly adaptable breed, it has proven its versatility by blending well with other breeds for successful crosses. The sheep live just as well in the grassy lowlands and the sparser uplands: they can withstand the harsh Scottish winter without any hardship and have adapted well to our climate and landscape.  Crossed with the hardy cheviots, Texel crosses make for a strong and hardy lambs.

These sheepskins come from a flock raised at Linicro Larder, here on Skye.  Linicro is a joint venture wtih a focus crofting in tune with their surroundings.  To find out more click HERE.

To keep your sheepskin looking as good as the day you bought it, restore the texture of the wool from time to time using a metal brush or comb. On the back of each sheepskin, you will find a stamp detailing whether the fleece is washable or dry clean only. For a spot clean or refresh, use a damp cloth and our Woolly Fresh Spray. Use the latter sparingly.

Washable sheepskins

You can hand wash or machine wash your fleece on a wool cycle at 30 degrees Celsius with a wool-specific soap or our Woolly Wash. Dry in the shade and do not expose the leather to heat. When dry, shake vigorously and rejuvenate the pile using a brush.

Dry-clean sheepskins

Your rug should be brushed regularly to keep the fleece in good condition, this is especially important if you have a longer staple rug. If you do spill something on the rug it can be spot washed, taking care not to wet the leather, and then dried slowly. Talk to a reputable dry cleaner, who will have experience of leather and fleeces.
