Tips and Trends
It’s September and Autumn comes calling: the weather will be getting cooler but nature will be putting on its best garments of golds, browns and ochres which are the highlight of many autumnal walks.
This season, the key fashion trends will attempt to capture something of the beautiful classic autumnal colours and textures: warm browns and rust, natural fibres, leather, tweeds, layered woollens, capes, statement scarves and hats are in… all Skyeskyns’ favourites and a perfect fit for traditional and contemporary Scottish and British fabrics and designs.
Keep a look out for our emails and website as new and returning favourite Autumn items make their way onto the online shop throughout September.
Here are some of the key trends we’ve Fall-en for:
Tweed and checks
Dare the checks and the contrasts this season. Big bold checks are everywhere as is beautiful tweed, which we are delighted about. So whether wearing tweed caps, gloves, boots or scarves, or going a full “check look, there is plenty of choice in the wonderful Scottish and British designers we work with.
Leather and hoods
The soft feel of natural fibres and textures is what it’s all about. Hats, coats, gloves, suede or leather, everything goes in this trend. Similarly big hoods to protect yourself from a chilly wind are perfectly acceptable so cosy, stylish and warm it is. We love our sheepskin coats for this and the trapper and cowboy hats work very well too!
Capes and layers
Large soft capes and layers of clothing are also on trend, which is great when you want to keep comfortable in any weather. The beautifully soft and more hardy ruanas we stock are brilliant for this purpose, keeping you warm in a quality durable cape you won’t tire of. Together some beautiful lambswool jumpers or smaller capes, won’t it be good to feel cosy and stylish at the same time?
Hats and statement scarves…and fluffy things
Hats must be worn this season and everything goes, from beanies to caps via fergie bands. Similarly scarves are making a big statement. They should be big and they should be seen. And, much to our delight, all things fluffy are in, from large bags to snow queen and cossack hats. We might have something wonderfully soft and fluffy to share with you in the coming weeks, currently only available in your showroom, so watch this space.
Rusts, browns, golds, ochres, faded reds…the whole warm autumnal colour range is within your grasp this season so there is no need to revert back to colder colours: keep it warm and blend the tones together. We are loving our Harleys of Scotland jumper range for this as well as some lovely bright neck warmers, some of which will soon be added to the online shop.
We hope you enjoy playing with textures and colours this autumn and we look forward to sharing our collections with you over the coming weeks.
