Hebridean Rugs
Very dark wool, black in the smaller lambskin rugs, quite long staple. The wool in the smaller skins will be finer in texture than the larger skins.
Fifteen years ago Hebridean sheep were a rare breed but now that the quality of the wool from their fleeces and the quality of their meat is once more being appreciated their numbers are increasing. We ourselves run a small flock on our croft on Skye. Hebridean ewes and their cross-bred lambs are able to thrive on grazing that would be considered poor quality for other breeds. In addition, their grazing preferences give them an unrivalled ability as conservation tools in delicate ecosystems. As a result, they are able to provide conservation management and a useful crop of meat lambs at the same time.
The Hebridean Sheep Society exists to promote Hebridean sheep as an economical breed with qualities of importance to today's livestock industry (particularly extensive sheep farming) and many types of ecological management task to promote biodiversity. The Society is the registration authority for the breed within the UK and is affiliated to the National Sheep Association. Membership is open to all who support the aims of the Society.
Unless stated otherwise all our sheepskins are machine washable (see caring for your sheepskin). If you have any questions about any of the sheepskins you see on our web-site please don’t hesitate to contact us.
